A familiar sight up here in Scotland, the North Country Cheviot sheep are stately looking creatures. A hardy sheep, native to the UK, it is large, rugged and tough. It thrives in grassy hills and uplands (like the Cheviots, a range of hills in North Northumberland and the Scottish Borders and rather fantastic for walking in!).
They are renowned for being marvellous, caring mothers and producing some very cute lambs. They are prized for their wool but are also bred for their meat. Their wool is white and resilient. People often use it for hand spinning, felting and other crafts. Their wool is also often used in the Scottish tweed trade. Believe it or not the males can weigh up to 125 kilo and the ewes up to 80 kilos!
See if you can spot any next time your'e driving through the countryside!
